Time to Rethink Hootsuite…

no-hootsuiteI posted this on ActiveRain recently and wanted to make sure I shared it with everyone. The ActiveRain community consists of thousands of real estate and mortgage professionals. Lots of them agreed that it is not a good idea to use a third party company to post statuses for you. So…I did some research.

A TON of professionals running their own social media campaign these days are using Hootsuite to make their life easier.

Hootsuite is a platform where you can schedule status posts on all of your different social media accounts. Whether it’s Facebook, Twitter, or Google+, you can schedule timed posts for weeks in advance and they will post for you. Sounds great right? You’re on vacation and you still want to be proactive with your social media, so this is perfect.

Well, not exactly. The social media platforms you are using such as Facebook know when you use a third party to post statuses for you. Facebook will pretty much “bury” your post if they know you are using a third party to post on Facebook. Also, at the top of the status it will say the date and then “Via Hootsuite”.

There have been several case studies on this topic. Hubspot has found that if you use Hootsuite to schedule posts, you will get 67% fewer likes.  :( Hootsuite is just one of the platforms you can use. Be careful when you use third parties like this.

Do you use Hootsuite for automated posting? What are your thoughts on this?
