When it comes to getting a new computer or laptop, you get opinions from both the lover of a Mac and a PC. There are always two sides of the argument just like preferring Coke over Pepsi. We have taken and compared the statistics of the two competing computers. Both Mac’s and PC’s have improved greatly over the past few years with more memory, more hard drive space, and much more. For the most part, the computer you choose depends on your personal preference and what you are doing with it. They both have a huge variety of what they can do.
Style/Design- Mac’s seem to be trendier and more modern because they are attractive and well built. Apple devices are known for style and elegance and they know their customers associate themselves that way as well. Apple products basically promote themselves. PC’s may be a little bit chunkier and don’t have quite as an attractive design…. but hey they are going to do exactly what you need them to do for a fraction of the price.
Who uses what? Mac users are usually designers, artists, and individualists. Mac’s appear to be the “cooler” version of a computer for those who are free-thinking. They have a great platform for originality and design due to the amount of great applications they have (iPhoto, iTunes, etc.). PC users are those usually in the business world. PC’s and Microsoft have been the standard of business forever. If you want to use Microsoft programs and browse the web, then PC’s are probably a better option for you. Mac is definitely making its ground, but the compatibility of PC and Microsoft products will be ingrained in the business world for many years to come.
Easiest? Mac’s seem to be very simple to function once you get the grasp of how the basics work. The learning curve is fast for the technically challenged. PC’s offer more features for the advanced user, but can be frustrating for those who are less tech savvy.
Secure/ viruses? With a PC, virus protection has to be bought and downloaded. With Macs, “Malware” is a virus protection software that is already installed. It’s definitely not impossible for Mac’s to get a virus, but PC’s are more susceptible. If you’re worried about viruses, get a Mac.
Pricing? Cost is a huge debate when it comes to getting a computer because you obviously want to get the most of your money. PC’s in the past have always taken the lead in cost-effective computers by a good few hundred dollars. They can often be half the price of a Mac depending on the type you choose. Dell, HP, Toshiba, etc. are all different kinds of PC’s you can purchase in which prices will always vary.
Customer Service for Products- Mac now has Apple stores worldwide. All of the stores consist of “Apple Care” which makes it a one stop shop for repairs and upgrades. They always have a huge staff and great customer service. PC users can find a repairman on every corner, but the price will always be different.
So…when you’re going to buy a new computer, keep some of these in mind. No matter which computer you use, you’re going to be able to accomplish your tasks with either one. Your skill set is what is going to determine what will be done with your computer. This whole debate boils down to what you want. Some people prefer different styles and programs, so if a PC works for you, use it! Don’t let anyone else’s opinion affect you because they may be doing completely different work than you.
