Digital Marketing No-No’s

Breaking news: no matter how great your business is doing, you’re likely making at least one digital marketing-mistake.

Don’t worry, after quickly reading this, you’ll be able to recognize what you’re doing wrong and correct it.

To start (and not to be Captain Obvious here), do not ignore your digital marketing assets. Use your Facebook account, tweet away on Twitter and snap pics for Instagram. Don’t just ignore them, as you’ll miss a perfect opportunity to interact with current and potential customers for your business, among many more possibilities.

Oh, speaking of digital marketing and social media assets, be smart at which platforms are best for your business. Maybe you don’t need a Twitter? Perhaps Vine wouldn’t help your business too much? Don’t launch every social media account known to mankind thinking you need all of them. Be smart…even though that is easier said than done.

Furthermore, it’ll be a clear sign that you probably ignore your website and digital marketing efforts if your site still has an old-school “live chat” option on  it. If you don’t have someone available to handle live chat requests, take it off your site now!

street-sign-562573_1280Make sure your site is optimized for mobile devices and tablets. It’s 2015, ok? People use their phones  and tablets to do almost everything, and that includes to shop and search for businesses.

If your site is displayed in a peculiar way on mobile devices, iPads and other tablets because it hasn’t  been optimized for mobile use, then you’re committing a huge digital marketing no-no!

Also, make sure you know how to read and analyze your digital marketing statistics and measuring  data. If you don’t, find someone or something that can. Having your data properly analyzed will give  you a fresh perspective on where you need to improve and where you should focus your digital-  marketing efforts.

Next, don’t just blatantly rip off people’s pictures and multi-media work. That’s not cool. Plus, there’s something called the “law” that you’re technically breaking, and things start to get hectic after you do that. Even if you do give tribute to the proper source, things can still go wrong. Either pay to use someone’s photos for your digital marketing, or just ask them nicely for permission.

Remember to treat those who handle your digital marketing with the same respect you treat your other departments in connection with your business. Don’t do things like brief your digital marketing team about a marketing campaign well-before or after it launches. Inform them at the same time you would your other departments.
